红星照我去战斗！
——蔡小小新作展“红星照我去战斗”
作为1968出生的当代艺术家，蔡小小亲历了中国社会政治文化的红色狂热以及父辈们生活的艰难，同时也目睹了80年代开始的改革开放以及改革带来的各种文化冲击与变迁。社会背景对他的艺术形成产生了重要的影响，特殊的生活时段和典型的生活经历使得追求人性的复归和对社会的思索构成了他的艺术的典型特征。
题名为“红星照我去战斗”的蔡小小新作展将于2007年9月29日在蔡小小工作室开幕，此次展览将展出他最近一段时间的创作成果。先从展览的主题来看，以“红星照我去战斗”作为展览的名称，具有特殊的含义。既是作者对于政治个体 “红星”的一种体察，同时，也是对于整个世界“战斗”的一种思考，这两者的结合也就是他的创作初衷。
此次展出作品的对象都是人们耳熟能详的台湾名人（马英九、谢长庭、吕秀莲等），他们都是近年来出现的几位典型的台湾政治人物，他们以鲜明的立场、大胆的言论和行为，搅得世界风生水起，即将到来的2008年的大选或许将决定台湾的未来。从这个角度来说，蔡小小选取的都是“热门的”题材，高度关注“台独”势力及和平解决台湾的方式，其创作具有典型的社会性特征。
在这种程度上说，艺术家用“红星照我去战斗”作为创作及展示题目，体现出了一个具有高度的爱国主义情怀的当代艺术家的思想。
在绘画的语言上，他的创作风格是平面式的，没有立体的纵深感。作品中运用强有力度的大手笔，强化视觉的张弛有度和冲击力。这些作品的色调沿袭了他惯用的黑与白，色块虽然对比强烈，但通过高度的概括、取舍和精心的调和而变得简练，使画面显得庄严肃穆，同时也体现出他用色用形的果断。于他而言，这种简单的色彩表达是一种价值观的陈述，代表着一种精神性的浮躁回归，这也与他的创作心态相吻合。他在思考和创作的过程中，一直是清醒而冷静的。画面传达的信息也是直接的理性的，他的作品应该属于理性表现主义的范畴。
他的画面还有一些显著的特点——等高线和金属构件以及中国文字。每一幅作品画面上都有这些元素，画面上运用黑、白、红这三种颜色。这些元素成为他的一种特殊的符号，丰富和拓展了画面的意味。若从深层次来考察，则与符号学有着千丝万缕的联系。
现在的时代是一个理想的、自由的时代，同时也是是一个焦虑的、混杂的时代，艺术流派姿态各异、层出不穷。在这样一个时代如何才能寻找到适合自己的本土属性，是每个艺术家都必须面对和思考的问题。蔡小小正是在这条道路上不断地探寻并不断地超越着。用他自己的话说，其实他一直只是在按照自己的兴趣爱好做着自己喜欢的事。受到良好艺术训练的他，有着扎实的绘画技巧，逐渐形成了自己独特的艺术个性。在他看来，艺术应该不断地向深度挖掘，他一直以来在绘画观念和语言上坚持不懈地进行探索，不断地冲破那些停留在生活表面的东西，进而深入到对人性对社会对世界的探求。其作品既是他自己生活态度和社会责任感的一种表达，同时也引发人们对于人性、对于社会的思考。

The Red Star Shines me to fight!
-- Cai xiao xiao New Show " The Red Star Shines me to fight!"
Born in 1968 as a contemporary artist, Cai xiaoxiao has experienced China’s social and political red fanaticism and also the fathers’ life’s difficulties. He witnessed the start of the 1980s reform and the cultural shock and changes that came along with the reform. Social background have had an important influence on his art .Special history period and a typical life experience make him to pursuit the returning the human nature and the deep thoughts of the community, which posed the typical characteristics of his art.
Entitled " The Red Star Shines me to fight!” the new exhibition will be on September 29, 2007 in the Cai xiao xiao Art Studio. This exhibition will display his most recent fruits of creativity. To begin with the theme, " The Red Star Shines me to fight! " has a special meaning. " The Red Star" is the artist’s observation to the political individual , also "fight" is a thinking for the whole world, a combination of the two is his creative mind.
The subject of these works on display is the Taiwan’s famous political figures (Ma, Hsieh Chang-ting and Lu), who are typical in political figures in Taiwan in recent years, with a clear position, bold rhetoric and behavior, stimulating the World Popular, and the upcoming the 2008 election which would probably decide the future of Taiwan. From this perspective, Cai selected the "hot" topics, pay great attention to the "Taiwan independence" forces and the peaceful settlement of Taiwan, whose creation has the typical characteristics of the community.
In this extent, Cai is a contemporary artists with a high degree of patriotism
In the language of painting, his writing style is the type of plane, not three-dimensional depth feelings. The use of strong generous in the works, strengthens the visual enlivened degrees and impact. These works followed the tone of his usual black-and-white, although colors contrast strongly , the high level of generalization and careful choice reconcile become pithy, images appeared solemn, also reflecting his decisive with the colors and forms. To him, this simple color expression is a statement of values, represented a kind of spiritual impetuous returning, which also works with his creation mentality. He has always been sober and calm in his whole thinking and the creative process. Information conveyed from images is direct and rational, and his works should belong to Rational Expressionism.
His images have some notable characteristics -- contour lines and metal components and written Chinese. Each painting pictures have these elements, images on the use of black, white and red colors of these three. These elements became a special symbols, enrich and expand the picture implies. If deeper to inspect, it links inextricably with the Semiotics.
It is a time of freedom, also full of anxiety and mixture, with different art schools. In such an era, how to find a suitable local attribute for oneself is a question that each artist has to face and think about. Cai is constantly in the way and continuously explore beyond with. Using his own words, he is just doing what he likes ,what he is interested. Well trained, he has solid painting skills, and has gradually formed his own unique artistic style. In his view, the art should continue to pursuit the depth , he has been making unremitting efforts to exploring painting concepts and language and broke those what remain at the surface of living things, so that in-depth of the humanity of the community to explore the world. His work is his attitude towards life and a sense of social responsibility expression, but also led people to human nature, for social thinking.
